Discipline

Cultivating self-discipline is the only way to make lasting changes in your life.  Unfortunately, there is no “life hack” or “shortcut” to optimal living.  You could read all the books available and get the best tools from the sources you are researching, but if you do not have the discipline to follow through with actions daily, then all those tools you have acquired will only produce temporary improvements.  You need to become a warrior of the mind by putting into practice the philosophies you may be reading.  Do not just be a student of the mind, become a practitioner. 

 

Navy seals are a good source of inspiration when looking to cultivate your self-discipline.  They do not sugar coat what needs to be done.  It’s about putting in the hard work daily, and voluntarily visiting suffering every day to help mentally prepare yourself for battle in the colosseum of life.

You must train yourself to do the hard things when you don’t feel like doing them.  You should voluntary put yourself in discomfit at least once a day to build mental toughness, so when discomfort and suffering visit you without warning, you are mentally prepared to deal with it from a source of strength, and not weakness.  The are many ways to do this, but the best way to cultivate mental toughness is by engaging in some sort of physical activity daily.  Most people do not “feel” like working out every day.  It is the days that you are not “feeling it” that count the most.  If you can push through that discomfort and go to the gym or engage in some type of exercise, then you are on your way to achieving self-discipline.  Its easy to work out when you are feeling great, but those days are few and far between.

 

It will always be easier if you have a trainer, a coach, or someone to hold you accountable, however, you cannot depend on others to acquire self-discipline.  It’s called “self” for a reason.  No one can give it to you.  It comes from within.  Coaches and trainers are helpful in teaching you how to work out or establish a proper mindset but depending on them to follow through on your actions is a sure-fire way to fall off the wagon when they are not around.  You must realize they will not be there every day to push you, so you need to build the mental fortitude to push yourself, especially when you don’t feel like it.

 

Focusing on the feeling of accomplishment once you’ve practiced discipline will help you in this Endeavor.  Focus on how bad you’ll feel when you don’t do what you know you were suppose to
